what exactly do i do?: a recap of my first week on the job

so this job is actually centered towards me.
i initiate the takeaways, i state what i want, and this job will give it to me.

so far, in my first week of interning, i've met five important people (one each day) who gave me five important lessons.

  1. richard. do your homework if you wanna know what you're talking about.
  2. eddie. there are some things that just can't be explained. be curious enough to question but not enough to drain yourself.
  3. george. your capabilities aren't proved by a degree.
  4. adrien and grace. the thing about school is that you can focus on yourself, what you love, and give it your all to learn it. and you won't be selfish for doing so.
  5. rocky. there are opportunities all around to do what you want to do.
i've had four different types of chinatown food.
  1. the hong kong bakeries.
  2. the hipster/fusion/overpriced type restaurants.
  3. the hole-in-the-wall classics.
  4. the street food/snack food cafes.
i've had three major projects.
  1. tabling and communicating with parents in the neighborhood to promote our new afterschool program.
  2. stockpiling data on our community and how the "average" income isn't really average, it's more just a canceling out between the super-rich neighborhoods and the super-poor neighborhoods.
  3. brainstorming fun events to get the seniors up and moving as well as the youth (preferably together to acknowledge the intergenerational trauma).
i've met two amazingly wonderful fellow interns.
  1. alison. beaming with sunshine every day and always converses with the staff and residents.
  2. liana. down-to-earth and adventurous soul looking to immerse herself in her cultural identity.
i've come to one very important realization.
  1. everything is exactly as i'd imagined, and i couldn't ask for more. my psyche is fulfilled, and i am at peace. the turmoil that came from within this past year has been dissolved into grains and replaced with a newer, fuller curiosity.
